A skyscraper of 34 floors, provided a base of 8,500 square meters over an area of 25 thousand square meters of which two thirds are dedicated to a large garden, all to contain 4,000 "rooms designed" to accommodate up to 60 thousand corpses. These numbers are centered on Sky-infinity, a new architectural concept for the culture of remembrance, the theme of an exhibition presented in Milan at the Urban Center, open to the public until March 10.
The concept of death and the whole ritual that goes with it are for the Italian culture, mainly Catholic, a taboo still difficult to deal with a serene mind. But our society is changing quickly and the reasons are many: aging population, fewer and fewer spaces available, increased secularism and the presence of numerous multi-ethnic communities who observe other religions. It is therefore urgent to give concrete answers to very different needs in this area that could be called culture of remembrance that is present in human history, always, in every culture and every religion. Pier Luigi Lanza creator and promoter of the project explains how this idea was born: "I imagined an easier place to visit, more comfortable, brighter, more accessible to elderly and children. The verticality seemed the ideal solution, space saving, ease of movement. Also important is the possibility that the project has to respect the different religions in the moment of commemoration. "
We will have the opportunity to purchase one or more seats that will become property forever, basically a modern family chapel where you can gather your loved ones. The project was designed by architect Richard cabal that is party to a precise concept: "This site was designed primarily for the living who visit it. Designed to have a low environmental impact and organized to enhance the green areas, the structure will have 6 arms with the cylindrical central core, which will stand on top of a place of worship for the memorial. There will also be counseling offices to the bureaucracy, underground parking, access routes for the various different areas. " Interesting proposal to devote a large area of sacred art museum exhibitions, from always also involved in the representation of death.
So an ideal project for a city like Milan, who wants to be modern and avant-garde for 2015 you must show future-oriented city, bursting with ideas. And what they think of death the Milanese? They are ready to Heaven-infinity? From a survey conducted by AstraRicerche on a sample of 825 people between 18 and 70 years these are the most interesting responses: 85% say that the thought of death shall not remove serenity to life, 50.2% admitted not to go never or almost never to the cemetery, 31% go there together, 22.7% goes there by himself. The overall assessment of the cemetery sees the skyscraper 40.1% of the Milanese are not favorable, 25.7% quite favorable and the remaining 34.1% very favorable.
Carlo Masseroli, Councillor for Urban Planning of the municipality of Milan, he concludes: "This project, bringing an idea so innovative, deep and questioning old beliefs and therefore the need for careful cultural debate. Then you can not overlook the economic sustainability assessment and research of the place and space suit. "
